Community Woodshop

The Community Woodshop at The Ville is a safe space where members can work on multiple projects at any of our opening times with a simple membership. Keep reading for more details!

Our community woodshop is looking for new members!

All you need to do is register and pay your membership fee to be able to use our shop to work on your own projects!

At the moment, membership is by donation monthly. Each month, you pick your price and that’s your membership fee. We do it for a few reasons: primarily, we’re still learning how to this and we’re not sure yet of a value to place on membership. Once our program is established and running smoothly, we can expect to set a specific monthly fee and eventually an annual one. This will be done in consultation with existing members.

You can register for your membership by visiting our Zeffy form here. Select the free membership and then also make a donation in an amount of your choosing. Once you've paid your membership, you're welcome to come in during any of the open member times.

The woodshop is currently open (summer hours) three times every week to members. Tuesday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. As we gain more volunteers, we plan to expand the number of open shifts per week.

Shop Hours (Starting fall of 2023)

  • Tuesdays from 9am to noon. + 5:30pm to 8:30pm

  • Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 8:30pm

  • Thursdays from 9am to noon

  • Sundays from 1pm to 4pm.

When you become a member, we also need you to sign some waivers & such. Here's what we need:

These documents are all available in the Woodshop. You can sign everything the first time you come in to use the woodshop. Or you can print them at home yourself, sign them and bring them with you for your first visit.

To make it easier for you, there are 2 steps you need to follow. You can register now to have you on our database, and make desired membership payment by following our two buttons below.

If you have any trouble signing up or making a payment, please contact admin@theville.ca.

Additional FAQ

What tools do we have?

Quite a few! Consider coming in for a tour to check them all out. (We can add some pictures of the space here)

What about “consumables”?

You’re responsibles for bringing your own “consumables”. This means nails, screws, sandpaper, wood glue, etc. If you use it up with your project, we don’t supply it. We do have a “take some, leave some” spot in the shop for such things.

Is there training?

Short answer is no. Volunteer supervisors will be on hand when the shop is open and some may have enough knowledge to provide advice, but the understanding is that you know what you’re doing. As the program grows, we hope to also find people willing to teach classes and these will be a good option for people who are new to a woodshop.
